The reason I picked the Newman sweeteners is the story about him going around and measuring all the big name guys' tunings during their breaks and finding this is where they all seemed to sit. The purpose of the sweetened tuning is to tune the strings so that all of the chords sound good, so that you dont have to tune differently for every song key.
